Bibby HydroMap celebrate charity awards win

Employees of Liverpool based Bibby Line Group (BLG) are celebrating the news that they have raised over a staggering £10million for charity, since the launch of the company’s Giving Something Back initiative just over ten years ago. The milestone figure was revealed at the business’ annual charity awards ceremony held at the Hard Day’s Night hotel in Liverpool on 7th December, which celebrated the achievements of BLG employees in supporting good causes.

Launched in 2007, the Giving Something Back (GSB) programme encourages employees to raise money for charities of their own choosing, through fundraising events, payroll giving, volunteering and co-ordinating special challenges. Bibby Line Group then matches the amount they have raised, pound for pound.

Since the programme began, employees have helped build a school in Tanzania, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, walked The Great Wall of China, and taken on numerous other local challenges and initiatives, to raise money for their chosen causes.  More than 1,000 charities have been supported through the programme so far.

Bibby HydroMap was delighted to see some of its own colleagues attend the ceremony this year to collect their awards. Our two winners demonstrated that despite having incredibly busy lives, and whilst helping Bibby HydroMap to have their best ever year, they still have the commitment to help their chosen charities raise money for those less fortunate and those doing exceptional work in the local community.

John Cresswell, Bibby Line Group CEO said:

“Our colleagues are truly inspirational. When I listen to their stories, and their amazing efforts to help local communities by raising money and volunteering for charity, I am immensely proud. As a company that prides itself in working in harmony with our communities, we are keen to encourage and harness this passion and give something back to the good causes our colleagues care about.”

Michelle Reaney (IT Support Engineer) was part of Team India, made up of 17 colleagues from companies across BLG, embarking on a charity fundraising trekking adventure in the Himalayas. The 67km challenge was part of BLG’s Giving Something Back Programme, raising money for various charities. It was an amazing adventure for all, a real expedition and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The team raised over £30,000 for their chosen charities as part of this trip.

April Fitzgerald Hudson (Project Geophysicist) accepted the Outstanding Team Award on behalf of the Conwy Raft Team. Back in August a team of seven Bibby HydroMap colleagues took part in a RNLI Open Day Raft competition against Conwy’s finest raft teams. The raft race is an annual event to help raise funds for North Wales RNLI.

The team took their preparation for the event seriously, studying knot tying skills (via You Tube), and how to build a raft from scratch. The team used their newly acquired skills and knowledge to build an impressive vessel, named Rafty McRaftface, kitted out with Bibby flags she was by far the best-looking craft.
