Bibby HydroMap supporting local Children's Football club - Poulton Victoria Football Club on the Wirral

Posted 5 July 2019

Bibby HydroMap are happy to be supporting Wirral based Poulton Victoria Football Club

A newly established club based in Wirral. In a relatively short space of time they have grown from a few children playing some informal games into a club that now looks after 300 children, 12 age groups and 27 teams.

They currently use 2 sites for all their games and training. The first site, for their youngest players, is at Sacred Heart Primary School and the second site for their older groups is a large field behind the currently empty Kingsway Academy in Leasowe. These sites are used twice a week for players to train and play matches. Both groups and the football club as a whole, rely solely on the players subscriptions and any type of funding they are able to acquire.

They organise many fundraising events such as race nights, fun days, raffles, lotteries and sponsored walks. It has become an important part of the local community helping to provide a positive footballing environment, with the main goal to create not only great players but also great teenagers and adults ready for the world ahead.

"Bibby HydroMap are delighted to help grass roots football on the Wirral by sponsoring Poulton Victoria PSG U6 team. The fact that it’s my grandsons’ team and that my son is their coach, makes it even more special." Mick Slater, Operations Director, Bibby HydroMap

There is a lot of local support for the football club and all family members get involved in fundraising and offering their help in many ways to ensure the survival of the club and the long-term benefits are enjoyed by all.

John, Mick Slater’s son, coaches at the club where Henry, John’s son and Mick’s grandson, plays. Here is John’s story of how the football club has become a big part of their lives:

Serving in the RN Submarine service since 2003 and spending a fair amount of time away from my family, I have never had the opportunity to get involved in any of my sons’ activities outside of school. With this year being the first year in my career where I have had an office-based job, I jumped at the chance to take on a coaching role for my youngest son (Henry’s) football team Poulton Victoria PSG U6.

Currently we train twice a week to optimise development which includes various training games to make it fun for the team and 1v1’s to maximise each child’s time with the ball at their feet. We have also been arranging friendly games on an opportune basis to get them used to the game environment. All the children are excited for the season to start and look forward to the challenges ahead.

The team formed at the start of 2019 with their first season starting in September playing in the Eastham league. Since forming we have been raising money for the team to facilitate us to purchase training equipment which has included spot the ball cards and sponsored walks. It really helps the club a lot to find sponsorship for the teams so to have Bibby HydroMap, offer to sponsor Henry’s team shirts for their first season, was brilliant. We can’t thank Bibby HydroMap enough.
