Mark Gould, Bibby HydroMap's IT Manager recently qualified for the ITU (Internal Triathlon Union) MultiSport World Championships being held in Ponte Vedra, Spain, April 27 to 5 May 2019. Mark represented Team GB in the Sprint Duathlon race in the opening event of the games.

Mark qualified in October 2018 at Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon, but it was only in February 2019 that it was confirmed he would be going to the Championships. It has been a huge personal journey and achievement for Mark to have reached this high level in his training goal and to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity.

“I got into triathlon training in 2013 and tried duathlon for the first time last year at Oulton Park in Cheshire, where I qualified. My aim was to push myself hard, gain a PB and be proud to represent Team GBR. I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved and made up that my family were able to cheer me over the finish line.”

Mark finished in 1hr 04mins and came 23rd out of 60 in his age group, there was many strong competitors from the field from 55 countries all round the world.

Mark's medal has taken pride of place at home.

The next championships will be held in 2021 on the Gold coast in Australia, so who knows! Mark has a number of triathlons booked for this year and hopes to one day have a podium finish.
