Proteus is a purpose-built GRP catamaran, launched in October 2013. The vessel has dimensions of 14.0m by 4.96m, with a draft of 1.3m, and provides a stable, comfortable and fast working platform for coastal survey operations. Proteus can work up to 60 miles from a safe haven under MCA Category 2 and has a maximum speed of 24 knots.
With a draft of 1.3m, Proteus is ideally suited to working in extreme shallow water. The hull design ensures exceptional manoeuvrability at both low and high speeds and incorporates a low drag profile, ensuring excellent fuel economy. The vessel features a moon pool, hydraulic A-Frame, and custom retractable transducer mounts, and is capable of operating a full spread of survey sensors.
The vessel provides adequate facilities for 12-hour operational capacity, with up to twelve personnel onboard. The vessel’s bridge is equipped to an exceptionally high standard, with the very latest in navigation electronics, including a Koden combined chart plotter and echo sounder.
Safety equipment carried on board complies with the MCA code of practice for small work boats (SCV Code) and is supplemented by a full complement of immersion suits for all onboard. Proteus operates under the MCA Category 2 certification under the SCV code, allowing her to carry 12 persons up to 60 miles from a safe haven. Two 8-man life rafts, with hydrostatic release and 406 MHz EPIRB, are carried onboard.
Proteus is permanently mobilised with a dual-head dual frequency Teledyne RESON T20-P multibeam echosounder, C-Nav 3050 GNSS, Edgetech 4200 side scan sonar, with dedicated high specification electro-mechanical winch and pole mounted Sonardyne Mini-Ranger 2 USBL acoustic positioning system.
